Shiva Golian DO
Shiva Golian, D.O. is a board-certified proctologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, completing a double major in dietetics and nutrition sciences, and a minor in psychology. She then went on to complete a one-year dietetics internship (DI) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, earning her the title of registered dietitian (RD).
Dr. Golian completed her master’s degree in biomedical sciences at Touro College in Bay Shore, New York. She was then accepted into an allopathic (M.D.) medical school, but was extremely intrigued by the field of osteopathic medicine. Osteopathic medicine offered Dr. Golian a more comprehensive wholistic medical education, as well as the knowledge and skill of osteopathic manipulative treatments (O.M.T.), offering her patients a wholistic approach to care.
So, Dr. Golian pursued this new path and was accepted into the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her osteopathic residency in New York, she and her husband soon discovered they were to become parents of twin babies. They returned to Indiana where they were received by their family with open arms – a family that would help them care for their newborn babies.
“Family and preventative medicine was always very important to me, so I pursued family medicine and completed my family practice residency at Community Westview Hospital,” said Dr. Golian. “I was interested in all aspects of medicine and wanted to learn more.” Community Westview Hospital presented Dr. Golian with the Wolf Scholarship for Outstanding Resident.
It was during her residency that Dr. Golian met and worked with David Harrison, D.O., a proctologist at CWH. She soon developed a passion for proctology and anorectal surgery. She pursued and completed her proctological surgery residency at Community Westview Hospital.
“I understand how embarrassing protological procedures and illness can be for many patients, so I feel it is important to offer my patients the opportunity to ask questions and provide them with detailed, easy to understand information,” said Dr. Golian. “There is no unusual question. I make every effort to treat all of my patients like family.”
